Bath and the Elac Study Centre
The city of Bath, a World Heritage Site, is one of the jewels of England. The compact city centre which is surrounded by seven hills like Rome, developed around its hot spring water. It is a fascinating blend of Roman, medieval and Georgian architecture, combined with a thriving shopping centre and excellent leisure facilities.
The city has a great many things to see and do, such as museums, parks, the Thermae Bath Spa, cinemas and theatres. It is also near to many places of interest, such as Oxford, Bristol and Stonehenge nearby. The city has a great selection of shops as well as plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes to suit all budgets.
Our Study Centre in Milsom Street is located in the centre of Bath, in a Georgian building over three floors. It’s a great location for seeing the sights of Bath and for easy access to the train and bus stations.
The Study Centre has three well-equipped classrooms with projectors and interactive whiteboards. There is a computer station for students and adults as well as access to Wifi throughout the building. Students are provided with lunch vouchers so they can buy their lunch at local cafes, such as MacDonalds, or buy a sandwich and drink from a supermarket.
Accommodation
Homestay Accommodation
Elac hosts are chosen with great care by our Homestay co-ordinator, who visits every home to get to know them and to inspect the accommodation provided. It is essential that all our hosts provide a warm welcoming atmosphere for our students where they can really feel at home. Hosts also have to comply with British Council standards, and have a current DBS Certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service). Students can expect a comfortable bedroom with somewhere to study and shared bathroom facilities.
Most importantly, students are encouraged to speak English at every opportunity within the homestay.
Hosts provide a breakfast and evening meal, and packed lunches on excursions.
University Accommodation
Ensuite rooms belonging to Bath University but based in the centre are available at certain times during the year.
Hotel Accommodation
Bath is a popular destination for many people visiting the UK. As such there is a wide selection of hotels, bed & breakfasts and hostels in the city centre and the surrounding area to suit a variety of budgets.
Travel to and from the Centre
Students are provided with bus passes and travel to and from the city centre on local bus transport, which is safe, efficient and good value. Elac can also arrange for hosts to escort students to and from the centre if necessary.

Tailor Made Programmes
Our programmes are designed to meet specific requirements: the number of students per class, number of hours’ tuition, number of excursions/activities, and the focus of the teaching. We can cater for school parties who are interested in a linguistic and cultural experience, or equally adults who have specific study goals.
Here are some examples of the programmes we repeatedly run at the Study Centre:
General English and Culture
English for Work (Alternanza Scuola Lavoro)
IGCSE
English Literature, Culture and History (CLIL)
Teacher Development
If organised in advance, teachers who accompany their students to the Study Centre may also attend teacher development sessions. These sessions are tailored to teachers’ interests and needs, so can help develop English fluency and accuracy, focus on TEFL methodology and teaching ideas, or discuss British culture and current affairs.
Activity Programme
For junior groups, there are sports options such as mini-golf, swimming, a roller disco, and ten pin bowling. For adults there is a great choice of restaurants, cafes and bars, museums and theatres, and the Thermae Bath Spa, with its roof-top pool and steam rooms.
Excursion Programme
There is a range of different excursions available from Bath. These include full day excursions to Cardiff, London, Oxford and Stratford, and full/half day excursions to Bristol, Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Salisbury, and Wells. Our excursions to the larger cities include a walking tour of the main sights. Visits to places of interest can also be arranged, for example to SS Great Britain (Bristol), Cardiff Castle, Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage (Stratford) Christ Church (Oxford), and Westminster Abbey (London). As with the rest of the programme, the excursions and visits can be tailored to the needs and interests of the group.
