Mayfield and Mayfield School
Mayfield is a perfect example of a traditional English village. It has a beautiful high street with shops, a typical English pub, and two churches, all built in the local Sussex style. The local villagers are friendly, making this the perfect place for younger students to attend a course.
Mayfield School is a traditional English independent boarding school, built largely in stone, and enjoying the most wonderful location and facilities. The school itself is based on the medieval palace of the Archbishops of Canterbury and dates back to the thirteenth century. On one side are the rolling hills of the Sussex countryside, and on the other is the main gate that leads into the main high street with its range on interesting shops.
The school facilities are superb. Well-equipped classrooms are light and spacious, and the magnificent dining hall with its high ceiling and wooden beams is more like a banqueting hall than a school dining room. The sports facilities are also impressive, with a modern indoor heated 25m swimming pool, sports hall and extensive grass and all-weather playing surfaces for all kinds of activities and sports, as well as tennis courts and a dance studio.
Accommodation & Catering
There are four main accommodation areas at Mayfield, two above the main school buildings and two separate houses (Leeds and Connolly). They are situated within the compact school campus so security is very high. They each have their own distinctive style but all offer comfortable study bedrooms, singles, twins or triples. Connolly house has larger dormitory style rooms with individual sleeping areas, and is ideal for the lower end of the age range.
All meals are served in the traditional dining hall where our students enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is always an excellent choice of menus with a vegetarian option and an extensive salad bar.

Activity Programme
Key Activity Features
- A wide variety of sports and activities
- Multi-national activities and the “activity carousel”
Our sports and activity programme during the day and in the evening gives students’ opportunities to enjoy a variety of sports and activities and practise their English in mixed nationality groups. Our activity leaders are experienced in encouraging students to get involved and have fun.
The “activity carousel” organises students into small multi-national groups who do some activities together during the course. The carousel helps students gain confidence and fluency with their English as well as encouraging them to interact with more students of different nationalities.
