Student and Staff Welfare

Our Commitment to You

Before arrival, we will check dietary, medical and educational needs so that we can provide appropriate support.

All staff and group leaders have current criminal record checks and staff receive safeguarding training and are always on hand to listen to and advise students in a confidential and friendly way.

Student Safety

Students are kept safe in the following ways:

  • Supervision on-site, on educational excursions, at night, on Elac transport (see our Safeguarding Policy for student/staff ratios)
  • A designated Welfare Officer and House Parent on-site as well as support from head office.
  • Students wear an Elac lanyard with emergency contact details
  • Students receive a welcome talk and tour to familiarise themselves with the campus
  • Students complete a code of conduct which highlights safety issues
  • Posters around the sites remind students of how to keep safe
  • First Aid trained staff and medical kits are available in all centres
  • Details of local medical facilities are provided and visits organised when necessary

Wellbeing

We encourage our students and staff to look after themselves during our fast paced, active courses. Strategies such as yoga, ensuring students and staff are eating and drinking enough and getting enough sleep, and checking in with them regularly to recognise the signs of stress early – all can help.

We also have mental health first aid trained staff who can offer support as well as signpost people to get further help if needed.

Staff Welfare

We recognise that Spring and Summer courses can be a fast moving experience so we provide as much support as possible, both before and during the course, to allay any concerns staff may have and to step in where necessary.
